Mono-Printing Workshop with Lakyn Bowman
April 13th & 14th, 2024 — 10am-4pm
The Nine Oh Six
212 E Main St. Jackson, TN 38301
Wanting to learn monoprinting from Lakyn? Now you can in her very own vintage store! Making pottery in a vintage shop? How cool.
In this 2-day workshop, participants will learn how to mono-print on clay. This technique utilizes underglazes and colored slips to transfer hand-drawn images onto leather hard clay. The workshop teaches tips on composition and spacing and how that plays an important part in the end results of this diverse technique. Lakyn will demonstrate her method to achieve aged and weathered surfaces on your clay base. Lakyn uses a red stoneware, Standard 308 Brooklyn Red. Red clay is suggested, but not necessary. Feel free to bring both to see the results!
Students will bring 4-6, or more, of their own leather-hard pieces ready for printing. A variety of forms is welcome, plates and trays are a good way to test this technique. If interested, one of those pieces can be a cup and Lakyn will demonstrate how to apply handles post decoration without disturbing the design.
A material list for the workshop will be provided after payment has been received!
**Please note this is for printing only, not building pieces. Bring your own leather-hard pieces ready for printing. This workshop requires enough clay experience to make your forms in advanced, but the mono printing process is very beginner friendly. Underglazes and colored slips will be provided!
